We’re not talking 1980′s Dallas-style linebacker shoulder pads, so banish that thought from your mind right now, but a touch of broadness was seen on the runways of New York and London Fashion Week. So, how can we make this runway trend more real world?
Shoulder pads are more about adding structure to your wardrobe this time around, and are much sleeker and smaller than in the past. They also go especially well with the current military trend and are popping up in the form of shoulder embellishments, like this sequin shoulder military jacket from Kmart.
If you’re up for incorporating shoulder pads and/or embellishments into your wardrobe this season, here’s a few tips:
Tip 1: Go for a more feminine silhouette. No need to buy shoulder pads in a can (Remember those? Yikes!). A bra with built in shoulder pads will do the trick.
Tip 2: Keep accessories to a minimum. The shoulder pads and/or embellishments are the star, let them carry your outfit.
Tip 3: Believe it or not, shoulder pads can be very slimming! Use them to balance wide hips and pear shapes and pair with long sleeves to elongate arms and legs.
Tip 4: Have confidence! You’re embracing a trend, so stand up tall and make your fashion statement!

Okay. I’ll think about giving these a try.

I don’t know… I was a big shoulder pads wearer in the 80s. I just don’t think I want to go back there again.
