Being a Mom is one of the hardest jobs you’ll ever have-period. You’ve got to balance children, spouse, work, home, chores, finances and somehow in the midst of all of that you have to maintain your sanity. And if you’re going it alone, meaning you don’t have any outside support, you’re even more likely to feel stretched thin and at your wit’s end.
Want to know what wit’s end looks like? You exploding or imploding in fits of anger, rage, depression, anxiety and disparity-it only gets worse from there. You could end up doing or saying something you’ll only regret later. So, TAKE A TIME OUT.
- Take a step back ~ give yourself time to calm down. Breathe deeply for a few minutes. This will help to calm you mentally and emotionally.
- Respond, don’t react ~ when you react, you do so out of emotion which almost always yields negative outcomes. Allowing yourself time to calm down will help you make better decisions, in the long run.
- Assess the situation ~ review your circumstance(s) and gauge what you can do to bring about a speedy resolution. Make a list, if you have too.
Remember, giving yourself the time to process your thoughts and feelings will go along way towards helping you to respond, rationally, to your situation. We know hind sight is 20/20; so let’s do all we can to ensure we see and act wisely.
