Do you know what’s in your old makeup brush? You know, the one you’ve used everyday for the last three years because it just makes everything it touches glide that much smoother over your skin? Well, I’ll tell you, but be warned–it’s not pretty…
Germs, dead skin cells, natural oils from your face, breeding bacteria, old makeup and dust. And these are just the things we know about. What can you do? Wash your brushes regularly. This will help ensure cleaner skin and reduce the likely hood of breakouts or irritation.
I’m definitely cleaning my brushes regularly from now on! So can you.
Here’s how:
1. Wet the bristles of the makeup brush under warm, running water. Hold the handle of the brush upright, so the base of the bristles won’t get wet. The bristles are held in plcae by glue and if the glue gets wet your bristles may fall out. Not good.
2. Put a dab of shampoo into your palm and rub the bristles in the suds to gently clean your brush.

I highly recommend doing this! I notice a difference when I don’t clean my brushes as often as I should. My routine differs slightly from yours. I wash my brushes with my face soap…that way I know I am using a soap that is designed to wash away the icky face stuff. Also, with my sensitive skin, I know I won’t have an allergic reaction (breakout) by using a soap other than what I know is gentle enough for my face. So, if your skin is sensitive like mine…this may be a better alternative. I know that dish soaps should not be used because they are great degreasers which will cause the bristle glue to disintegrate. I have not had any problems from the glue getting wet, but that may just be for my brushes. You will love how your brushes feel after you have cleaned them…they are sooo soft!
