Pea coats and parkas are nice, but if you’re looking to perk up your winter wardrobe, make a statement with a cape! Capes are a big trend this season, appearing on runways and in fashion magazine, but I’d argue that they are a timeless piece that is worth the investment.
Keep Your Cape Stylish and Balanced
The key to wearing a cape is balance. Capes add volume to the top half of your body, so pair them with skinny jeans, pencil skirts, leggings, and tall boots to elongate the legs. If you’re interested in a classic cape that you can wear for seasons to come, look for wool or flannel capes in gray, navy, black, or camel, just like you would a pea coat.
- Ultimate Military Cape by Top Shop $190
- Modern Capelet by White House Black Market $188
- Crusade Cape by French Connection $388
- Everything in Place Cape by Anthropologie $198
Capes Can be Trendy, Not Just Traditional
If you want to make a statement with the cape trend, go for something a little flashier. Colors and patterns, pockets and embellishments can all give a cape an edgier look.
- Vintage Style Cape from ASOS $138 (This may be my favorite cape. Love the rouching!)
- Plaid Cape by YOOX $138
- Embellished Cape at Net-A-Porter $650 (The price is outrageous, but it’s so pretty!)
- Cape Jacket from ASOS $78
- Bonnie’s Cape from Coach $680 (Mark my words – this will be at the outlet. Keep your eyes peeled!)
Winter Capes for Full Figures
If you’re full figured (like me), don’t shy away from capes! Longer lengths and strategically placed belts can make a cape a slimming addition to your wardrobe.
- Cape Coat by Boutique for Top Shop $310
- Cape Style Jacket by Spiegel $21 (Major sale! Order quick – I did!)
- Double Duty Cape by Anthropologie $248
Capes are a great way to stay toasty warm and on-trend this season. Don’t forget to check local vintage and second hand stores for great deals on fashionable capes.
Do you own a cape? How do you wear yours?
