In all my years I’m not sure I’ve ever seen a yellow countertop, have you? As much as I might like to see one of those, we won’t be doing that today! But we will see some yellow, and we will see some counters!
Take a look at this picture from House Beautiful:

I notice SO MUCH in this picture! Wanna know what? Here goes…
- Bright colors against white woodwork! It’s a winner every time!
- Awesome open beams in the ceiling! I love that look!
- Open shelves in the kitchen, where the upper cabinets might have gone. A trend.
- Herringbone (ish) pattern in the floor, cool, but too busy for my taste.
- TWO awesome types of counters…
- Polished Stainless – See the bright counters in the foreground of the shot! Those look great, but you do have to be ready for some scratches.
- Real Solid Wood – In the background you can see that those cabinets have a dark wood counter. I really love that and I think it totally works with the look of this kitchen. AND a carpenter can make it…with wood. That has to be a good thing.
Let’s look at another one!

Here we have a totally different style, but it still has yellow and it still has countertops, so it makes the cut!
Here are my bullet point thoughts on this one:
- Colorful backsplash – tiny 1″ square tiles in myriad colors looks pretty cool here!
- Ceramic or Glass? – you might think it’s glass by the look, but my eye seems to say it’s ceramic; you can get this look either way, but there is a difference, both in cost and style.
- The range hood – no comment
- Pot filler – Pot fillers are very popular nowadays! Make noodles, save five steps, look cool!
- More Stainless Counters – I don’t know… I’m thinking I wouldn’t want stainless counters. You?
Let’s take a look at one more!

I like this picture. Here’s why:
- Cool edge treatment – this counter has a unique edge that I’ve never seen before.
- Integrated sink – I still love this about solid surface counters (such as Corian)…looks great and super easy to clean!
- Tumbled marble wall tile – Ever heard the term “subway tile”…where did that come from? Of course I can guess…I is smart… but that’s not what it is “officially” called. This pattern is called a “running bond”, but I digress
- Real Stone – is what I was trying to point out! Love, love, love the natural material. You’re mind knows it down deep. When you’re surrounded by natural materials it just feels right! And these are cheap!
In fact, you’ll be the first to know. I think I’ll do a post on doing a little tumbled marble wall splash over at Remodeling Guy.

Yes, I have seen a yellow countertop. When I was in about sixth grade, we had them in our house! They were so sunny and happy!
I love noticing things about photos (I have played a little game like this on my blog, I think it was called Observation…so much fun!)…I study magazine photos all the time and find so many details!
I have loved that top picture for awhile now. I love the bold use of yellow. And my favorite thing is the open shelving for books. I did that in my own kitchen and it was always my most favorite thing because it seems so homey and not formal.
Yellow, no. But bright orange, unfortunately, yes. We had them in our first apartment right after we got married. They went right along with the dark brown polka dot wall paper (in the basement, mind you) and avacado green fixtures.
Let me tell ya, after revisiting that decor memory, these cute yellow pictures are a breath of fresh air!
Our fixer had yellow laminte countertops when we bought it. if you dig through my kitchen remodel pics, you can see it. There was a matching yellow paper towel holder
It was really lovely. which is why we ripped it out immediately
Hey Ladies!
Melissa – I’m with you on the yellow! I really like it too and I think I’d love to see some yellow countertops. Sounds just like you say, sunny and happy. You know what? I did see one, it was tile, yellow 4×4 ceramic tile and we ripped it right out! Looking back, it wasn’t bad looking…. the owner was just tired of it. People seem to get tired of the tile tops after awhile. I know you like those wood countertops!
Jen – My MIL has orange laminate right now today! She’s had it for the twenty years I’ve known her, and I think almost 20 years before that! The stuff is durable… but she MUST be sick of it by now? Right? You’d have to be….
Emily – I might have to go over and dig through those pictures and see that. I wonder if they make a really cool laminate with some yellow to it. You know Wilsonart has out this Wilsonart HD laminate now and it’s pretty sharp. I’m all countertop happy now.
Maybe I could spray paint…..
You could totally spray paint it. That is the solution for everything. Duct tape and spray paint. Nothing they can’t fix.
I just wanted to comment that your work is very impressive.
Hi!
Actually I’m trying to figure out a decorating scheme for lemon yellow countertops right now- that’s what led me to this site, actually!! lol I’m buying a house with a great kitchen- and lemon yellow (not-tile) countertops. To add to the mix is a really functionally nice, large oval, partitioned sink -in a very lime green color. The cabinets are nice, solid wood in a dark oak. Everything looks like it functions quite well, it’s all in good shape, and with all the stuff that we’re going to be doing on move-in, I’d rather not make myself crazy with a kitchen remodel, especially since it’s not broken.
So…I’m thinking some sort of mexican-y hacienda-esque sort of scheme that could make lemon/lime things look like they’re supposed to be there? What do you think? What would you do?
Hi Chris! I would keep the yellow counters for sure! With the right mix of colors in the room (love the Mexican-y hacienda-esque scheme idea!) it can look like you meant it to be that way and it can work. It sounds fun to me!
I never like ripping things out that are still in good condition. When you are moving in to a new place there are always a million other things to do (I know how that goes) so you might as well move on to something that needs more attention! Send a picture, it would be fun to see what it looks like!
Congrats on your move!
Happy new house!

I think yellow is a great color for kitchens. It’s cheery and it really “brightens” up a room. The key, I think, is to choose the right color yellow…
They say that yellow rooms make people happy. I’ve heard that the color yellow evokes an involuntary smile response from most people. Looking at the pictures you posted above I can see why.
