DIY Pumpkin Candy Holder

Halloween is right and around the corner and I am so excited to start working on the kids costumes.  And no costume is complete without perfect accessories.  Today I’m going to share with you how to make a fun homemade pumpkin candy holder, the perfect accessory to that adorable costume.

The supplies for this fun project are:

  • 2 pieces of stiffened orange felt
  • 1 piece green felt
  • thread and needles
  • paper, marker and scissors
  • black felt (optional)

To start, trace out your shape on paper and transfer onto your felt.  Cut out your felt so both pieces are identical.  If there is black showing from the marker trim if off.  To recap you:

  • Trace
  • Transfer
  • Cut
  • Trim

Next, place the two pieces of felt on top of each other but only pull your threaded needle through one piece of felt.  This will keep your ends hidden and neat.  Continue to sew around the edges and bottom of your felt using a blanket stitch.  Make sure to leave the top open.

Once you have the side and bottom done, cut a strip of green felt to use as the handle.  Attach it to the open area using a simple stitch.

I decided to give my pumpkin some eyes and a funky smile using the black felt.  The nice thing about the stiffened felt is that the regular felt sticks to it without glue so you can interchange your faces easily.

My daughter loved her new pumpkin candy holder and we can’t wait to fill it up with yummy Halloween treats!

What do you think?
