Let’s face it; we live in a world that demands beauty and perfection. Beginning at a very young age, we women starve ourselves to reach the perfect dress size. We color and curl, straighten and highlight our hair to have the most stylish do. We measure ourselves by the latest celebrity trends and strive to achieve them for ourselves. We pluck and wax and nip and tuck, and still, we aren’t happy with what we see in the mirror unless the world is happy with us.

Christian artist Jonny Diaz believes we’ve gotten far too caught up in the cultural definition of beauty and lost sight of our purpose. More Beautiful You, from his 2009 CD of the same name, reminds us that each of us was made to fulfill a purpose, and that we are fearfully and wonderfully made. The song goes on to remind us that no matter our past mistakes, it’s never to late to “change your path, go another way,” and be saved by the grace of God.

The next time you catch a glimpse of yourself in the mirror and are tempted to criticize what you see, take a moment to remember that “you were made to fill a purpose that only you can do” and there could never be a more beautiful YOU.
