“Be still and know that I am God” ~ Psalm 46:10
The holiday rush is upon us. As I write there are less than 30 days until Christmas.
Gifts to be bought. Goodies to bake. Travel plans to arrange. Programs to see.
The list goes on and on, doesn’t it?
Yet, there is this gentle call to my heart … “Child, sweet daughter, be still. Get quiet. Seek calm. And know, truly know, that I am God. I am on the throne. I am in control. Rest in me.”
So I wake before my family. Curled up on my couch with the tree lights glimmering and listening to the crackling in the fireplace, I treasure the quiet. The calm. It’s dark outside and for this sweet moment, all is calm.
In the midst of holiday chaos and craziness, how do you step back and seek stillness?

Sounds like a perfect time of stillness to me!
I hear/feel that call too. It gets louder every year as there seems to be more and more…
Thank you for encouraging us to be still and listen. To rest in Him.
I’m so excited you’re here.
It is!!
You are such a blessing, Stephanie! I’m working to heed the call … what a blessing to serve a God who calls us to stillness.
I’m like you Teri except I take my quiet time at night to help me wind down from day and bask in all the blessings God has bestowed upon me that day!!!
That call certainly gets louder this time of year in my house. We have two birthdays between now and Christmas! Your setting sounds perfect, and as soon as I get the lights on the tree, (hopefully today) I’ll give it a try!
I love those quiet moments at night, too. They are just harder to capture for me!!
Resting & stillness is always a challenge this time of year! But what a gift from our Father if we are obedient. The bible study I am in breaks from Thanksgiving – mid January and the temptation is always to put Him on hold during this busy time (of all times!). So for me staying in the Word and keeping my prayers as continual as possible are key. I’m like you, morning is best. It’s hard for me to offer my day to the Lord once it’s been lived!
Blessings to you this Advent Season!

I bet you’ll enjoy the relaxing. I am taking a little evening quiet tonight. Home alone … and it’s good.
So true … it is hard to stay focused this crazy time of year … but that makes it even more important, doesn’t it? And I can’t imagine not giving the first moments of my day to the Lord … I need that. I have a little rule for myself, “I don’t talk to anyone until I’ve listened to God.” Blessings to you too!
I’m trying to cut down on the chaos in my life…take everything one day at a time…and make sure I keep my eyes on HIM.
Playing worship music also helps me to be still.
This is like a field trip. I love following you over here. I curl up on my couch with my coffee with fat free french vanilla creamer in hand and listen. It is hard for me to get it in anytime other than early morning and of course when I do my day goes smoother, I have more time and certainly more patience and joy.
We ALL need more stillness. Wonderful post!
Thank you for sharing. I enjoyed your post. Doylene
I like using music to set the tone … quiet & contemplative in the morning … and then energetic & inspiring during that afternoon lull …
Field trip … I love it!! I am like you, Lori, if I don’t get up and spend time with the Lord first thing, it usually doesn’t happen.
Yes, we do! Thank you.
Thank you … for leaving a comment. I am glad you were touched by these words.
