A young girl from church walked up to me and said, “Did you know I’m going to be baptized next week?” As she said it, I’m pretty sure I saw her eyes actually sparkle for one brief moment. At only 9 years old, she is aware of what this decision means, and she’s excited.

As I talked with her, I remembered what it was like when I first became a Christian. I remember what it was like to be passionate about my faith. I remembered that excitement, that fervor, that desire to tell everyone.

And as she spoke I was reminded of what Jesus said in Matthew 18:4, “Therefore, whoever takes a humble place—becoming like this child—is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven.”

I want my excitement back.

I want my fervor back.

I want to become like a child, and bask in God’s love.
