When I was in my 20’s, I took great pleasure in being one of the select few who could bypass the line at a particular nightclub and be granted admittance because my friends and I knew someone on the inside, someone those other poor souls freezing their butts off, did not. In those days, laughing as we breezed past the line with the cockiness of 20-something girls, we made sure everyone knew we had the “secret password” for entry to the party.
As I’ve gotten older, those party days left far behind me, that feeling of knowing you’re on “the list” has waned.
There are no more lists, no more clubs, no more velvet ropes.
Yet, with my faith journey this year, I found myself among a group of VIPs again, members of a list that needs no velvet rope. Yet it holds the secret password to the party of all parties, the hottest club in town.

There is no line to get into this club; we don’t have to stand outside waiting our turn to get in. Nobody gets turned away at the door, and you don’t need to follow a dress code to join in on the celebration. You need only to ask, and the door opens wide.
But if you are not in the know, you can walk right past the door and never even notice all that is going on inside. I know. I walked by for many years, never imagining how great the party was.
When I look around at my faith community, I can’t help but feel like a VIP. How magnificent God’s love is in all of us, how amazing what we’ve found in each other.
Look at us, we’re on the list.
But there’s no cockiness this time. We don’t want to leave anyone standing in line out in the cold. Come in and join us, there’s room for everyone at this party.

What a wonderful sense of growth that comes through in this post. The important thing to remember about your former secret-password days: without them, you wouldn’t appreciate the membership of the faith community you now enjoy.
I love the way you put it, “But there’s no cockiness this time. We don’t want to leave anyone standing in line out in the cold. Come in and join us, there’s room for everyone at this party.”
It is really inspiring to see you grow and “take flight”
