What Lies Beneath Your Surface?
Sometimes we encounter creepy-crawlies and the like in our homes. Often times, they’re easy to treat once they’ve been identified or diagnosed. However, the creepy-crawlies that lie under the surface of our lives are sometimes more difficult to spot or treat.
In late January, our family packed up and headed out of icy Indiana to Disney World, Sea World, and all things in sunny Florida for a whole week. Since we were going to be out of the house for so long, we thought we would take advantage of the opportunity to have some much needed home repairs completed. Our bedroom floor carpet was a favorite “spot” for the cats that lived here before us, which quickly became our dog’s favorite “spot” (Can you say ick?) On top of all that, it was worn out, dusty, and just plain nasty. Our bathtub and bathroom were equally disgusting, as well as our kitchen floor. We decided to take the plunge and get it done all at once.
While we were standing in line for Buzz Lightyear at Disney World, we got some surprising text images sent to us of “what lied beneath” our bathtub and bathroom floor. Can you say mold? As in mold everywhere? It was completely gross and disgusting. Needless to say, it took the contractors longer than expected, but the guys got it taken care of, covered up and cleaned by the time we got home. It really got me to thinking…what else is lying around that I don’t know about?
Not so much around the house, but under my surface? I asked myself what is living beneath the surface that is easier not to deal with and is slowly and silently spreading? No, I can’t see it but it’s there, just like mold.
- Anger.
- Jealousy.
- Fear.
I am realizing more and more that there is lots of ick and creepy-crawlies that needs to be cleaned up and removed from inside of me. I am so thankful to God for Jesus who makes it all possible.
How about you? What lies beneath the surface of you?
