I get a kick out of bumper stickers. Sometimes if I see a car ahead of me with an intriguing bumper sticker, I’ll drive just a little faster in order to catch up and see what it says.
I’ve threatened my children with putting a “STUDENT DRIVER” bumper sticker on our car, but that didn’t go over real well.
Aside from the usual “I have an honor student at Fill-in-the-Blank School” stickers, and the ubiquitous political candidate stickers, I have seen some pretty interesting bumper stickers over the years.
Recently one said, “I Pray. Get Used to It.” That was on the car of a woman who was scratching off a lottery ticket. No kidding! I wonder if she prayed first.
And another I saw last week said, “God bless the whole world. No exceptions.”
Yes, I thought, that’s a good thing to ask for. I’d like God to bless the whole world.
But very quickly I realized, He already has! When God sent His Son, Jesus, into the world, He blessed it for all time. Forever. Amen.
John 3:16 is one of those verses that a lot of people learn when they are little children: “For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.” You may have heard it before.
But the very next verse is also a good one to know as well: “For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.”
Did you get that? He didn’t come to condemn, He came to save. The world. The whole world.
No exceptions.
I’d call that a pretty big blessing.
