Have you ever noticed how fervent your prayers are when you are in the midst of difficult times in your life?
We’ve come through some times in the past year where I desperately sought God so many times each day just to make it through. I completely relied on Him, knowing that without doing so I wouldn’t be able to keep my head above water. During these times, I enjoyed such sweet times with the Lord. I was learning so much from the Word each time I cracked it open and everything was so fresh, as if it was the first time I’d ever read the passage.
Trials have a way of passing us by sometimes without our realizing that they are done.
Before we know it, we’re on the other side and happy to be able to breathe on our own. During a recent quiet time, I realized that I hadn’t asked the Lord to hold me and take me through the day as I’d been so accustomed to doing for several months. For a couple of weeks, I’d been relying on myself and my own strength because I felt that I could do it on my own.
Saddened at this thought, I had a moment of nostalgia for the sweet times I had with the Lord during our recent storm. He’d brought me through and given me more grace than I knew possible. He’d relieved me from the daily panic, just as I’d pleaded with Him to do. Rather than be on my knees giving thanks to Him, I gently (almost subconsciously) pushed Him aside and said, “Ok, I’ve got it from here.”
I encourage you today to think back to a time when you were fully relying on the Lord for your daily strength.
- If that season is over, are you still relying on him fully?
- If your heart longs for the closeness you felt as He held you through the storm,would you seek Him now as you did then?
His love abounds as much in our times of joy as any other.
Glory in his holy name;
let the hearts of those who seek the LORD rejoice.
Look to the LORD and his strength;
seek his face always.
Psalm 105:3-4

When she’s not being Blissfully Inspired, you can find Heather Running From The Little People and enjoying a good cup of coffee. She may also have a mouth full of dark chocolate but not to worry, that doesn’t slow her down in a good conversation.

It’s difficult sometimes to do everything we’re supposed to do, eh? I’ve worked hard at praising in the storms, as well as in the good times. But I never quite feel I’m doing it right. Which is why I’m glad that God sees my heart and motive rather than my actions.
Going though a “quiet time” myself right now, and your words reminded me of just how I’ve been “going it on my own” more and more each day. Thank you for the reminder.
