Money makes me uncomfortable. Not the actual money itself, but the risks it brings are sometimes too much for this “play it safe” chick to handle. With all the recent drama surrounding the economy, I often find myself worrying about our financial future. Our church, like many, has had to make some very difficult decisions due to the current economic state, and this has done nothing to ease my stress. I mean, seriously, first it was our jobs, now church?! I needed help, and I turned to the one place that had all the answers: the Bible.
So what does the Bible say about money? Quite a bit actually. Here are a few of my favorite verses which give me comfort in these trying times:
- Luke 6:38
Give, and it will be given to you. They will pour into your lap a good measure, pressed down, shaken together, and running over. For by your standard of measure it will be measured to you in return.
- Proverbs 28:20
A faithful man will abound with blessings, but he who makes haste to be rich will not go unpunished.
- Psalm 37:25
I have been young and now I am old, yet I have not seen the righteous forsaken or his descendants begging bread.
- Matthew 6:31-32
Do not worry then, saying, ‘What will we eat?’ or ‘What will we drink?’ or ‘What will we wear for clothing?’ For the Gentiles eagerly seek all these things; for your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things.
- 2Corinthians 9:8
And God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that always having all sufficiency in everything; you may have an abundance for every good deed;
- Philippians 4:19
And my God will supply all your needs according to His riches in glory in Christ Jesus
- Romans 14:8
For if we live, we live for the Lord, or if we die, we die for the Lord; therefore whether we live or die, we are the Lord’s.
I could go on and on. What about you? Where do you find comfort?
