God Enjoys Your Company
For the Lord taketh pleasure in his people; he will beautify the meek with salvation. ~ Psalms 149:4 KJV
Today I was thinking of my childhood friend–my dog–Princess. We were inseparable. When I rode my bike, she accompanied me. She was the last thing I saw before I went to bed (when mom put her out for the night) and when daylight came, she’d be waiting at the front door for mom to let her in. She’d run to my bedroom door, wait until the door was opened and then she’d jump on the foot of my bed where she would lie until I woke up. I’d wake up, hug her, and get ready for our day of adventure. How does this relate to spending time with God?
Most of the time we–people of faith–tend to think of our relationship with God in terms of servants and masters. Typically, we are the servant and God is our master. But as I thought of Princess in the role of servant, and myself as master, I began to look at my relationship with Adonai in a different light.
I delighted in Princess. She may have wanted to be with me, but I cherished our times together and couldn’t wait to be with her. It really touched my heart to know that she wanted to be with me so badly that she’d wait outside the door until my mom would let her in. How could I not feel anything but love for her? THIS is how the Master feels about us. He desires fellowship with me–and you–because He delights in it. He delights in us!
