I’ve often heard people say, “I wish I could have as much faith as she has.” They usually proceed to talk about a friend or family member whose faith is great, and therefore, God does amazing things in their lives.
In Luke 8, Jesus was on His way to see the ailing daughter of a man named Jairus. Within the crowd of people following Him was a woman who had been sick for at least 12 years. She’d tried almost everything in order to be well and nothing had worked. She’d heard about this man they called Jesus and knew within her heart He was the Healer. She didn’t dare approach Him in front of all of those people to ask for a miracle. She believed that all it would take was one touch; one touch would change her life and take away her suffering.
The crowd following Jesus was so large that Luke says they “almost crushed Him” (v. 42, NIV). Yet, surrounded by throngs of people, Jesus felt this woman, in faith, reach out and touch the hem of his cloak.
Many were asking Jesus for miracles at this time. People would follow Him and beg Him to travel to their dying loves ones, and yet this woman believed that all it would take to be well again was one touch of the Messiah’s coat.
How big is your faith? Are you waiting for God to answer your plea with a miracle? Maybe it’s time to allow your faith in Him to be enough.
Daughter, your faith has healed you. Go in peace.” Luke 8:48
