I had the delightful opportunity to watch pre-schoolers as they sang this song. It didn’t matter if they were crying, pouting or simply just off in their own world. When the teacher started singing this song, ALL of the children got involved. Tears dried up, tantrums ceased and those who were an island onto themselves joined in.
Before long, every child was laughing, clapping, stomping and smiling. Before I knew it, I was smiling and clapping along with them. They were tickled that a “big person” other than the teacher, actually knew the words to their song.
When the song was over, my smiling wasn’t. In fact, I smiled for the entire day. Some people thought it was because of a “secret love” or a “good report.” They all thought I was smiling because I got something, when in fact all I did was do something.
So, Selena, what’s the moral of the story? Simple: if you’re happy and you know it; and you really want to show it; if you’re happy and you know it do something about it. Clap, dance, sing, smile, laugh, read, and yes love.
All of these responses are action words–they’re things we can DO. We’ve all got a great deal to be thankful for and it’s time we start doing something to reflect on the outside, just how truly blessed and grateful we are on the inside.
Whether it’s to lavish our loved ones with a renewed sense of appreciation and love or simply just to share a laugh, doing something to show how you feel will yield a reward that will keep you smiling for a long time to come.
