My desk is covered with sticky notes. When my boss calls me or walks up to my desk, there I am with sticky notes and pen in hand–waiting to jot down the task of the moment. My favorite part? Pulling those notes off one by one and throwing them away. I am your everyday run-of-the-mill accomplishment-driven individual. To be honest, I think a lot of women are wired that way. We see a task in front of us and we want to quickly accomplish it, check it off of our list and move on to the next item. No matter what the task, we’re ready to get started! In fact, the bigger the task the quicker we start. With God, however, sometimes that’s not the chance. Sometimes, God just isn’t ready for us to get started on that task.
Learning to Wait
I think back to the many seasons where I’ve been excited about an opportunity or a blessing that has been placed before me. So, like you I jump in both feet first. Then, before I know it I am overwhelmed and in way over my head. Sometimes, doing a good thing is not necessarily doing the God thing.
Imagine the apostles at the beginning of the book of Acts. The Lord ascended. Jesus, whom they had known personally, was the Messiah; and they were ready to tell the world. Then comes Jesus’ instructions to them:
He commanded them not to leave Jerusalem, but to wait… -Acts 1:4 HCSB
That was their instruction: wait. So many times, this is what He is saying to us: to wait.
Before you rush into that next thing–certain that God wants it for you as much as you want it for yourself–wait.
Before you satisfy that deep longing in your heart that you have faithfully prayed about for years–wait.
Don’t settle for the good thing. Wait for the God thing. You’ll be blessed and grateful that you did!

What a super entry and one I can certainly identify with. Sounds like we are much alike in our desire to mark things off our list, in other words, “get it done.” And, the waiting is always a challenge and definitely an area where I always need work but have come a long way over the years. Thank goodness we serve a patient God. Blessings to you!
