Look What Love Can Do
Baby Rachel was born to a mother and father in a rural village in India. Her parents took one look at her when she was born and knew they did not want her and could not care for her. First, she was a girl and if that wasn’t bad enough, she had a cleft palate which certainly made her an outcast.
My family got to meet Rachel last summer. She was the smallest baby I had ever held. She was only 20 days old, and so, so fragile. Our friends in India took her in and cared for her. If they had not, she would have been left to die. Sadly, this is seen as an act of mercy in some remote villages of India. Jesus’ words in Matthew echo through my mind when I see this photo of baby Rachel, one year later after her cleft pallet surgery:
‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’ ~Matthew 25:40
It was love that took Rachel in and cared for her. Love mended her mouth carefully and complely. Love fed her, clothed her, bathed her and healed her. Just look what love can do.
