Love Labors But Not In Vain – Be the Change You Want to See In Others
Heart-shaped balloons. Chocolate kisses wrapped in red foil. Flowers. Candlelight. What do all of these have in common? They’re outward expressions of love that many of us use when celebrating special occassions like Valentine’s Day. We spend hours looking for the perfect gift that puts a face to this splendid wonder we call love. And make no mistake, love is a spectacular thing.
It causes the best and worst of us to stand shoulder to shoulder on even ground sans religious debates, prejudice or preconcieved notions. It causes the coldest of hearts to warm with compassion in the presence of children who’ve endured more suffering than any of us will ever see in our lifetime. Love whispers into the ear of the soul causing wounds, offense and secret pain to wilt and lose its power. Love speaks up when justice is found wanting. Love kisses boo-boos and hurtful tears even for those we didn’t birth.
Love is the power–that wonderful majestic power–that bids us all to examine ourselves more closely, to give to others more freely and to swing open our arms to embrace those who believe that love–in all its facets–is dead.
You–me–we are the face of love. One word has the power to change nations–to change lives. So, let’s be the change we desire to see in the world.
