How Hard Is it To Talk To People About God?
Most people aren’t interested in having a conversation about God, and many don’t even believe God exists at all. So how do we go about sharing the most important news with those who turn off at the very mention of His name?
The Book Of Ester Points To God
The book of Esther has something to teach us about God’s involvement in this world. In the Biblical account there is no specific mention of ‘God’ but it is amazing to see how many times the story points to His involvement and His sovereignty.
- Favor is Granted (Esther 2:9)
- Laws are obeyed (Esther 3:2)
- Prayers are answered (Esther 4:15-16)
- Circumstances fall into place (Esther 6:1-2)
- People are converted (Esther 8:17)
Even though the name of God isn’t mentioned in the book, in every twist in the story we see His hand in the turn of events and the obedience and courage of His people.
How To Share God With Others By Example
Without preaching to everyone we meet, there is a way to share about the awesome God we serve. People may notice when God grants His people favor in the eyes of people in authority so that He can change things here on earth. They might see us faithfully living out the guidelines in the Bible (like Mordecai refusing to bow to Haman). Those close to us may notice the strength He provides even when circumstances are dire. Sometimes we have the opportunity to share about answers to prayer. When people see these things in our lives, they might even ask us what this life is about and choose to follow our God.
Through God’s intervention and the faithfulness of His people even to the point of risking their lives, He saves the Jews from destruction and proves His faithfulness in the eyes of people who don’t yet know Him.
Mordecai encouraged Esther with these words “For if you remain silent at this time, relief and deliverance for the Jews will arise from another place…and who knows but that you have come to royal position for such a time as this.” (Esther 4:14 NIV)
Look for evidence of God working in the circumstances of your life, keep living the way He has shown you, keep praying, and when the time comes – speak.
For who knows – You might have come to your position, your family, your friendships … for such a time as this.

I think sometimes, I stop because my life isn’t perfect… or I may have so much still to learn… or I can’t remember exact phrases… But then I realize that I don’t have to wait for the right circumstances to speak up and share God’s word. Esther had so much more to lose than I.
God has come up a lot in my local Mom’s group b/c of the election. It is very difficult to get through to some people, and unfortunately, they usually need Him the most.
Great post!
My friend & I were just yesterday discussing how difficult it is to share our faith and we were discussing what God’s expectations are. Sometimes it seems so daunting. Thanks for the encouragement.
Well it is early hours of the morning should be slepping but i am enjoying the peace and inspiration of gods word and insight and i decided to pop over to see your sight and boom wow just what god is teaching me. I started to get upset when Lindsay didn’t jump to my beliefs..so i paused cos i was feeling sad and sat out side to pray and god said step aside its my work to be done. Just do as i command and love i have control..so i must now read esther again in a new light..
