“By FAITH, barren Sarah was able to become pregnant, old woman as she was at the time, because she believed the One who made a promise would do what He said.”
~ Hebrews 11:11
Following – Trusting – Waiting – Learning
DETOUR: Sarah was 65 years old when God told Abraham and Sarah to leave their home. Not knowing where they were going, they obediently FOLLOWED His direction.
Do you have faith to follow Christ’s call no matter where or when?
Are you willing to trust that blessings will follow obedience?
DETOUR: Sarah was so beautiful that she and Abraham lied TWICE saying Sarah was Abraham’s sister not his wife. And so, Sarah became a member of Pharaoh and King Abimelech’s harems. Abraham didn’t trust God for protection. Sarah had to TRUST God when Abraham could not protect her. God protected Sarah and no child was born from these detours-therefore, God’s promise of a child to Sarah AND Abraham could still be fulfilled.
DETOUR: Sarah WAITED on the Lord to fulfill His promise for 10 years but she grew impatient. Taking matters into her own hands, Sarah convinced Abraham to sleep with their maidservent Hagar and a son was born-but again, this was not the realization of God’s promise of a son to Sarah AND Abraham.
How many times have we chosen not to wait on the Lord to do what fulfill His promises-instead choosing our own way to make matters progress?
DETOUR: Sarah eventually LEARNED that God fulfills His promises. Even upon hearing the promise with her own ears, Sarah laughed at God’s promise.
How often are we brought to laughter or tears when we feel the call of our Lord? Do we think it is not possible for His Plans to be fulfilled?
But the following, trusting, waiting and learning came to fruition when, 25 YEARS after God’s initial promise, Sarah’s only son, Isaac–whose name means laughter–would be born.

Beth,
That was awesome…thanks! It can be SO hard to WAIT, can’t it. In our rush to “get it done” ourselves we often times can really mess things up. Thankfully He is a good and patient God!
Great words!
