I have some amazing girlfriends. The kind of girlfriends who would come over in a moment’s notice if I needed them. They are the kind of girlfriends who would listen to me talk about the same thing over and over. They listen to me whine about bad hair days or laugh with me about my kids. They are the girlfriends that have my back against myself and my enemy. The enemy. You know…the devil? What a pain in the backside that guy is. The backside, the mind, the heart, ah, but not the soul. Yes, he can try to bully me in many ways, but I am God’s girl and this girl has backup in the form of girlfriends.
Would you believe these girlfriends can look a lot like an army?
They may be an army wearing the latest stiletto, but still, one kickin’ group of chicks. I have had many times when I needed them to go into battle with me against something in my life. Whether it be sin or just circumstances, they have put on their camouflage stilettos and hit the floor in prayer for me, my family, or whatever else I needed.
There’s a great story in the Bible that paints a beautiful picture of friendship, accountability, and spiritual warfare. You’re going to join an army just moments from being engaged in battle. Read what happens:
“Joab saw that there were battle lines in the front of him and behind him; so he selected some of the best troops in Israel and deployed them against the Arameans. He put the rest of the men under the command of Abisai… and deployed them against the Ammonites”.
Here’s what Joab said to Abashi, “If the Arameans are too strong for me, then you are to come to my rescue; but if the Ammonites are too strong for you, then I will come to rescue you. Be strong and let us fight bravely for our people and the cities of our God. The LORD will do what is good in his sight.”
Turns out all the bad guys went a runnin’. (see 2 Sam. 10 for the rest of the story)
This is the scenario we can have with one another. We are the ones who protect one another’s backs, sides, hearts–all of it.
We need to enlist each other and “deploy” one another against the enemy in our lives. We can say to each other, “If the enemy is too strong for me, come help! If he’s too strong for you, I’ll be there. We’ve got to be strong! God will do what is good and saving us is good. He will send the enemy a runnin’ for us too!”
- Get some back up.
- Be vulnerable to others.
- Verbalize your issues and seek those who will be your Stiletto Army.
