Did you ever sing this song when you were little?
My God is so big, so strong and so mighty, there’s nothing my God cannot do!…
As my daughter sang that song like a broken record, I thought: “If our God is big and strong and mighty and there is nothing He cannot do…then there really is nothing for us to fear, is there?”
If you wholly believed God would take care of you come-what-may, would you worry about the future?
Our God is big. And strong. And mighty.
And there’s nothing He cannot do.
Even if the future holds something difficult for us, it’s still not too big for God.
NOT:
- Illness
- Unemployment
- Death
- Foreclosure
- Marital troubles
- War
- Poverty
Our God is a powerful God and He is faithful
and we can trust Him to do what is right.
Scripture indicates God will allow us to go through some very hard things, but He’ll provide for our needs as we go through them.
Remember the birds and the lilies?
If we ask God to take the worry away and give us peace, He will. It may not happen all at once. We may have to keep praying for peace as God changes our hearts, but God will give us peace if we seek it.
The Lord is at hand; do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things. What you have learned and received and heard and seen in me–practice these things, and the God of peace will be with you.
Philippians 4:5b-9 (ESV – Emphasis mine.)
What do we do when we’re afraid?
Trust God. Really trust him. Don’t worry about the unknowns, the what-ifs, or about what the next storm will bring. Instead, pray in faith – not fear – and He will give you peace.
God is for us. Who can be against us?
Franklin Roosevelt said, “There is nothing to fear but fear itself.”
I say, as a child of God, there is nothing to fear.

Thank you so much for this post! I’ve been reading the posts here for a while, but this one really touched me. The particular verse you chose was read at my wedding (chosen by the reader) and I never really got it until today. Peace. What a wonderful thing. Thanks again!
Beautiful thoughts, Amber. Thank you for sharing those today!
mmm..mmm… this was such a great reminder! Thank you Amber!
What great post! We all need this reminder!
Recently my husband and I were trying to sale our home with no potential buyers at all – not to mention an “economic crisis” going on! But we never let go of our faith. Our slogan was,”My God is bigger than the housing market!” After being on the market for over 6 months, we finally found someone to lease our home!
God is so good!
Beautifully put. I guess I couldn’t help but run into this post, what with the theme the tension of fear/evil/suffering vs. thanksgiving bursting forth from it. I spoke briefly on the broader issue of Thanksgiving and the problem of evil yesterday at our church’s annual Thanksgiving dinner. I think we’re basically saying the same thing, from different levels of broadness.
Once again, beautiful post. I’ll check back from time to time.
Grace and Peace,
Raffi
