Every hip mom is toting an iPhone these days, and with good reason. These sleek Apple phones are easy to use, attractive and fun. What’s not to love?

After two years living in the new ‘iPhone culture’, I’m still a devoted BlackBerry user. In fact, I recently upgraded to the BlackBerry Bold 9700 and have fallen in love again.

Sure, I am lured by the iPhone’s gloss and Steve Jobs’ black turtleneck (especially as a lover of Apple computers), but there are a few reasons why the original smart phone is my choice.

Why smart moms love the BlackBerry

1. Double the battery life. By separating my media device (which is an iPod Touch) from my communication tool, I’m never stuck after a long flight with no juice on my phone. With two batteries to run down, you won’t be left in the dark.

2. Free up a hand. The iPhone’s interface makes it tricky to use with only one hand. However, with the BlackBerry’s real keyboard, you can have a hand free to grab a kid or a cup of coffee. The new touch button scrolling makes on-the-go web browsing even easier!

3. Multitask with ease. BlackBerry’s operation system (OS) lets apps be minimized, but stay active and online so you never miss a notification. This is great for instant messaging and social media tools that you’d want on but not to be in all the time. The current iPhone OS only allows multitasking with native applications, not with the vast number of third-party tools you’ve downloaded.

I can freely admit that both phones are great and that the iPhone blows away the BlackBerry in gaming. However, for today’s busy multitasking moms, the BlackBerry deserves a strong second look.
