June 24 is National Handshake Day.
Handshakes have been used since the 2nd century B.C. It was a way to demonstrate that the hands had no weapons and business could be done peacefully. Handshakes are still used often in business – to greet, to say good-bye, to seal a deal, etc.
You can tell a lot by a person’s handshake.
- Is it firm and confident or soft and shaky?
- Is it passive or aggressive?
- Clingy or quick?
What do your handshakes say about you?
Twitter has been used since July 2006. It is a way to demonstrate that you are online and ready for business. It’s a way to greet another business person – or thousands. You can start deals and seal deals through Twitter.
You can tell a lot by a person’s tweets.
- Are they active online? What is their main passion?
- Do they tweet business, lifestyle, or a mixture?
- Are they conversing and interacting or just spewing their opinion?
What do your tweets say about you?
Just as you would not neglect to use a handshake for your business you should not neglect using Twitter for your online business.
Following are five tips I’ve heard often:
- Add a picture of your face to your profile.
- Don’t use auto Direct Messages.
- Do start conversations.
- Acknowledge/thank people that Retweet you.
- Using a twitter client really helps. Tweetdeck is great!
I know there are many more so please add yours in the comments!
If you have no clue where to start there’s a whole ebook with great information titled “The Smart Girl’s Guide To Twitter.”
