When trying to pimp our blog or web site, most of us provide a link to our home page — our main URL. But if you’re looking for the almighty SEO (search engine optimization), or just trying to get more subscribers, consider linking to more relevant pages or posts.
When you are providing a link to your site, consider where the link will be posted and who will be seeing that link. Choose the absolute best and most relevant post/page on your site. For example, on my personal blog, I discuss parenting, homeschooling and blogging/tech. If I’m going to get a link from a tech-related site, I might give them the URL to my “blogging” category instead of my main URL. Linking keywords to related content within your own site is called deep linking.
It’s important for SEO purposes to deep-link to your own content from your own posts. Check out Nathan Rice’s article, Ultimate Guide to WordPress SEO – Deep Linking. But deep linking is not just for SEO:
“It’s not just about search engines either – your website visitors will thank you! Think about it: when you are searching for something specific do you want to be dropped off at the main page and told “go find it yourself”… or do you want to be pointed to the exact information you are looking for?” –Lynn Terry @ ClickNewz.
