This weekend the proverbial calendar flips into the Spring season – which means many of us get the itch to start cleaning….our homes, our closets, our gardens….but what about our blogs?
For our purposes today, we’re referencing WordPress Blogs.
Let’s start by cleaning out your comments.
Why Clean Out Your Comments?
- The most popular way to moderate comments is to allow your commenters to post freely once you have approved them the first time. This means, you approve one comment from someone and every comment thereafter will be ‘auto-approved’. Naturally, most of your commenters are upstanding citizens, but some will choose to take advantage of this.
- Frequently you will have people who masquerade as real commenters, when in fact they are spam frauds. You know what I’m talking about, right? You might have seen a comment that looks like this: “This is a great post …” followed by a link.
- Occasionally, your spam filter doesn’t catch everything
So, what do you do?
How to clean your blog comments:
- Head to your comment page
- Find your search option
- Search for offending words: porn, sex, loans, mortgage, ‘buy cheap’
- Delete, delete, delete.
Don’t you just love that clean, fresh, blog smell?
Happy Spring Cleaning.
