I am not a gamer. I am decidedly bad at anything Wii-like – if it requires remotes and hand-eye coordination, I’m generally out of luck because I totally lack skill in that arena. I had a brief Mario Kart winning streak for a day, and then my eight-year-old figured out the game and then I lost my edge entirely.
Enter Oceanhouse Media’s Up with a Fish! stacking game for the iPhone. THIS, I can do. The premise is simple: you tilt your phone left or right to catch the falling items on the Cat in the Hat’s head. You want to catch the fishbowls – that’s where the points are. If you miss three fishbowls then the game is over. Oh, and be sure to watch out for Thing 1 and Thing 2. Those little sneaks will take your stack of items, meaning: less points when that fishbowl finally falls.
This game is adorable and the learning curve is short. My whole family is addicted, and even my four year old caught on after two rounds of playing. My eight-year-old and I are on a mission to continually top the other’s score (currently, I’m ahead… but only by ten points).
While the basic premise of the game is easy, as you progress, the items fall more and more quickly. It’s a fun game… even for the parents!
Up with a Fish! is available for $.99 from the iTunes store.
