I am in love with food but my real addiction might be diet books. I seem to be collecting diet books like someone in need of an Oprah hording intervention. (Actually Oprah should send help since there is a Bob Greene book or two in the pile.)
The first diet book I ever bought was the T-Factor Diet. With that book you counted fat grams. It was an inexpensive paperback and only cost 5 bucks or something. But that cheap fix was like the first hit of free crack a dealer doles out to hook you. Before you now it you’re a regular customer.
As you can see I’ve counted points, fat, carbs, portions, French people, and pounds ever since. (The two little cases are from Weight Watchers.) I’ve spent hundreds of dollars on diet books all while gaining dozens of pounds.
And every few weeks I totally give up and purchase rebound books. I call those the I’m-sick-of-counting-things-hello-Paula Deen cook book pile. I also stock up on butter in those moments.
I put my books on the scale the other day. They weigh more than 35 pounds. If I could lose my weight in diet books I’d be smokin’ hot. Maybe I should start using them as free weights? So far the diet advice isn’t doing me much good.. maybe the resistance will.
So do you have a similar pile of diet books or is it just me? If you need one I’ve got some extras.
