You likely have some in your cleaning supplies…those wonderful antibiotic wipes. They are convenient and effective; whip them out of their container, a quick swipe, and the surface is sparkly and clean.
But it’s a quick swipe that is key; a recent study by Cardiff University examined how well antimicrobial wipes actually performed. Essentially, it’s one swipe and the wipe should be out of service. If you continue to use that sheet, it loses its effectiveness and begins to spread germs.
Not only that, but it might be contributing to those super-germs that are antibiotic resistant.
Not what we’re after!
The take-away message for us is this…if you chose to use disposable, antibacterial wipes, keep in mind they are only effective for a very limited time.
I personally try to avoid them, but I do use them occasionally. It’s hard to beat how convenient they are, and in a pinch I reach for them. If you do, keep in mind that the surface space that they clean is very small.
They are powerful, but only in short bursts. After that, you might as well be running a tissue along the surface, essentially moving the germs from one spot to another. Eeeeew.

this would have never occurred to me – not in a million years.
I’ve read some of this blog and am a subscriber to Fussypants, but I didn’t get here by clicking a link or reading a feed. Wanna know how I just got here? Stumble Upon! Congratulations, Ali! Clearly, your online mag is taking off!
