Greetings fellow
Domestic Divas! I’m Tiffany, a brand
new contributor to Blissfully Domestic. I hope that you will join me in my new fitness challenge and weekly
column called Born to Run. I will be sharing with you all about my
successes and failures as I pursue a healthier lifestyle with increased
exercise.
I’ve chosen to start running because I’ve always thought I couldn’t do it. Now
I’m ready to triumph over the “I can’t’s” and embrace a new motto… “I can”. This isn’t a weight or size issue, it’s my
health, and I want to take care of myself. I’m sharing my journey with you because I hope to be able to encourage you
to do something outside of your comfort level. I’m also sharing because I need the accountability.
My weekly routine
will be as follows:
(each exercise will be done three times a week on
non-consecutive days)
Week 1: Walk 5
minutes, run 2 minutes-3 sets
Week 2: Walk 5
minutes, run 2 minutes-4 sets
Week 3: Walk 4
minutes, run 3 minutes-3 sets
Week 4: Walk 4
minutes, run 3 minutes-4 sets
Week 5: Walk 3
minutes, run 4 minutes-3 sets
Week 6: Walk 3
minutes, run 4 minutes-4 sets
Week 7: Walk 2
minutes, run 5 minutes-3 sets
Week 8: Walk 1
minute, run 5 minutes-3 sets
Week 9: Run 15
minutes straight (lordy, this one’s going to kill me!)
Week 10: Run 20
minutes straight
If you would like to join me in this challenge, post your
encouragement, or share your story of physical fitness success, post a comment
below. I would love to hear from you!
On Monday I’ll be posting all the humbling details of my
present physical state, height, weight, and BMI. I’ll spare you the pictures of my thighs.

This is awesome! I’ve been trying to incorporate more running into my walks. This looks like a good plan to follow. Count me in. See ya on Monday!
I have just started Thyroid medication…and thought I would bounce back to normal weight. DIDN’T HAPPEN! This sound like a great way to ease into running. I will be joining you.
I like this. I seem to be constantly working on running. My standard workout is 30 min.’s on the treadmill w/ a combination of running and walking. I need to work on stretching out that running though. . . I can’t seemed to get past 11 min.s without stopping on a good day.
Maybe I’ll try your plan but do it 5-6 days a week since I am trying to drop 30 pounds! sheesh!
thanks again for your post.
I’m a daily walker and would love to join this challenge, but I’m wondering. Is there any evidence that running is superior to walking?
I have issues with varicose veins on my left leg and have always been afraid that running would make them worse. My Dad took up running and his veins got really bad looking afterwards so he stopped (he’s still very active and in great shape, just not a runner).
Would you know any more about this? 4 babies in 7 years did a number on my gams.
Carrie-I’m not aware that running is superior to walking for the state of you health. It will burn more calories but if you are looking for a way to burn more calories without the impact of running, you might try an elliptical machine. Those things are major calorie-busters!
I’m going to give this a try. I have NEVER been much of a runner. I was always the slowest in my class, ever since elementary school. But, I am commited to re-training my body and teaching myself how to R-U-N! Thanks for the inspiration!
