Workout count this week: 0
Cookies eaten: 3, which, if you think about the fact that I made 32, is pretty good.
I am a master at justifying missteps when it comes to my diet and exercise. In fact, I’m a master at calling blowing off a whole week of exercise and eating too much food, justifying, when in reality I should just call it what it really is…
Sabotage.
There is no excuse I’m too proud to try on myself. All day, I have a running commentary in my head about the diet and exercise decisions I make.
"It was hot today and we walked a long way, so these french fries I going to snarf down are practically guilt-free."
"The children ran me ragged today, I DESERVE a chocolate milkshake from Culver’s."
"This weight is NEVER going anywhere no matter what I do. I’ll just make sure not to get any fatter."
"I don’t remember even sitting down today, I don’t need to go walking tonight. I NEED to sit on the couch and watch So You Think You Can Dance."
It seems that any strides I make, whether it be the loss of a pound or two or being able to see some results from doing the pilates video, I see that success as an excuse to cheat. I sabotage myself and it makes no sense! I’d rather see the waistband of my pants getting too big and think to myself, "This is GREAT! I am almost ready to go down a pants size!"
Instead I treat myself to a loaf of banana bread. ("But it was freshly baked and warm!" Heh.)
This coming week, though, I have WORKOUT in bold letters on my calendar and I’ve set up email reminders. I think these tactics will at least help keep me honest with myself, rather than blow off exercise.
Also, I’ve putting my mixer beaters, measuring spoons, and measuring cups in a bowl with water and freezing them. It would be WAY too much effort to thaw everything out simply to bake cookies or some banana bread!
Come on over to Blissfully Domestic forums and discuss how you sabotage your diet and exercise regimens…and how to avoid those pitfalls.

I feel ya! I am a big time sabotager! Making brownies just so I can lick the bowl? That would be me…

I think only eating 3 cookies is amazing! I wouldn’t dare make a cookie right now. OY!
Eating only 3 cookies really is amazing! That’s the way I am with cake. I’ll make one and then purposely give most of it away just so I won’t eat it all!
Wow, I never would have thought of freezing my baking equipment–that’s a good idea! I don’t need to lose weight, but I like to bake and I end up baking so much that everything sits on top of the fridge getting moldy before we can eat it. Thanks for the great suggestion, Jennifer!
That sounds way too familiar! I can reason anything away…
Cookies are great, two are even better!

One of my favorite excuses…
The faster I eat these cookies, the faster I can start working them off.
So I scarf down a whole batch in 24 hours.
Another excuse…
But homemade is SO much better than store bought.
I laughed at myself yesterday when I swore I would skip a week making cookies. But hey, you gotta start somewhere. (but my cookies are SO good and I’m getting a kick out of finding my new awesome baking skills)
Wait, was that another excuse?
