It’s been three weeks since I last updated this diary o’ mine. I wish I could say that I haven’t updated because I’ve been so busy with going to the gym and pilates and healthy eating that I haven’t had time to write.
Partially that is true. I have been busy. I have been busy with life, my kids, my health, my hobbies. Making time for exercise has been at the bottom of my priority list, though.
This seems to be an ongoing theme with me and fitness goals. I WANT to be healthier, have more energy, and have my clothes fit better. Since exercise is rarely a priority, though, I allow other things in life to take precedence.
This has to stop. I am continually tired. My weight continues to climb. Merely going up stairs, I’m beginning to notice I’m winded. This lack of fitness is utterly unacceptable!
My lazy, computer-gazing self can easily justify why I haven’t made getting fit a priority. "I have a writing deadline to meet." "It’s late. I’ve had a hard day." "Next week, I’ll have more time." My ever-growing belly and tired of being lazy self says, "All those excuses are LAME."
I guess I’m not sure where to go from here. My perpetual lack of motivation and excuses are getting in the way of making any sort of head way towards achieving even the easiest of fitness goals. With that said, it sounds like I should start small.
I will walk in the neighborhood for 30 minutes ONE time this week.
That sounds do-able, right??

Don’t give up!! :0) I have been walking for the past three weeks and it is a daily battle but the battle does get easier. ;0) I get up early and take the dog for a walk and usually my ds comes along too.
Me, too. Can we attach our laptops to out double strollers? Just got wireless card, dude. I’m mobile. LOL!
It’s like writing, you need to just do it!
I am at the computer all day, too. I thought that I could set a limit, say every 50 min go to 10 min of stretching or back strengthening. While that hasn’t happened, I’ve found that if I go lay flat on my back periodically, it helps with computer-instigated back fatigue. I also have a “foam roller” which helps tremendously!
Good luck and keep at it!
Getting to the self-motivated point is tough. For several years, the only time I would run regularly would be the two months prior to the backpacking vacations my husband and I are so fond of. We do two a year, so this actually meant I was active about 4-5 months of the year, but once we got home…nothing.
Just over a year ago, though, I finally broke through the “doing it by myself” barrier and have been getting out two to three times a week. Sure, I’d rather sleep in, but the results speak for themselves.
Just today, in fact, I got up at 5am so I could get my run in before going to work. Then again, this time of year, I have to run pre-sunrise to beat the 100 degree and 90% humidity days!
I can’t recall where I heard of the Push-Up Plan, but my husband and I hold each other accountable for completing one push-up more than the previous day. I started with two and did five last night and will do six later this evening. Until you can do 100 push-ups. There is no pressure to kill myself. I have actually been shocked that I did five yesterday without getting as tired as when I did two the first night.
