One of the biggest stumbling points for individuals wanting to see change is they often aren’t sure how to make the leap between setting a goal and reaching it.
They’ve tried too many times in the past and failed…miserably. Confidence is flagging and they’re not even sure why they aren’t being successful. Very possibly, the only ingredient missing is a guided set of basic step-by-step instructions to jumpstart the plan of action. If you find yourself ready and willing to make a change, whether it be health or lifestyle related, read on. Long-term success truly is a step-by-step proposition.
* When setting a goal or objective, be specific as to what you are trying to accomplish or achieve. Focused objectives are more easily attained (and more measurable). For example, if you are choosing to lose weight, set a specific number of pounds to lose rather than just mentally aiming at taking off “several pounds.”
* Make sure your goal or objective is realistic and attainable. If you set a goal that is too far out of your reach, it is more likely that you will not commit to completing it. If your goal is large, break down it into sections that can be achieved reasonably. As you complete each component, every small success will encourage you to conquer the next section.
* Set a time frame to complete your goal. Give yourself a reasonable amount of time to reach your goal. If you do not have an established deadline, you will not have a sense of urgency, or the stick-to-itiveness, to complete your objective. Remember that over the upcoming days and weeks your personal investment to succeed will build, as does the momentum required to overcome any temporary snags or setbacks.
* Once you have set your objective, ask yourself why you are doing it at this particular point in your life. Realize that outside time commitments and time constraints can interfere with even the best-laid plans. Prioritize your current obligations and be willing to adjust your schedule accordingly. Factor in enough margin in your day for tasks you absolutely must accomplish.
