Here’s the thing…Running is hard! No shocker there. Here’s the other thing… It is sooo good for getting in shape! It doesn’t matter what level runner you are, you just have to get out there and make the feet hit the pavement.
I had to stop running for three years to have Miss Peach (fertility issues). Getting back into it was harder than I ever expected it to be. What worked for me? Setting goals. I set them extremely small in the beginning. “I am going to run to that tree, then walk“, “I am going to run to the end of the block, then walk“. See what I mean here? You don’t start with the goal of running a marathon, start by just getting out there. I promise, you will be shocked how quickly you will get moving!
My goal now…to qualify for The Boston Marathon. It’s a big one, I have run six marathons. I need under 3 hours and 50 minutes to make it. I’ve tried twice and missed:( Now, I am training with an uber-fast, running obsessed group. They are all faster than me, and I am a bit intimidated by it.
So, I am going to share with you all the tips and tricks I am learning from my group. Everything from stretching, to nutrition, to race day prep, and whatever I find in between. Wish me luck, I’m gonna need it…and let me know if you are training for anything…mkay!?!

Wow! Good for you! I only have time to dream about running a marathon. Does visualizing myself running a marathon count? LOL. I’d love to do it, but I literally don’t have the time to give to train every day.
Good Luck!
I’m not training for anything currently, but I run with my dog and she loves it! She always gets so excited when I start to put on my running clothes and the excitement builds as I gather all of our gear until she’s bouncing around the house ready to go!
I just started running, last week! I decided to start running to lose weight and get in shape and it’s already working. I signed up to run a 5K in September. My goal is to finish it without walking.
I’m looking forward to reading more about this. I have started walking and have a desire to jog, but have yet to actually do it. ;0] I do have a goal and that is next spring to run/walk a 5K race for womens health.
wow…that’s an AWESOME goal, and I am sending all kinds of well wishes and good vibes your way!!!
This is great. I have never been a runner but ACTUALLY dream of running. I think if I could get over that hump and become a true runner (no pain) then I would love it. I am going to start training for the Danskin Triathlon (sprint length). It isn’t until next June, but I should start now. Thanks for doing this!
Good luck on your training! I am interested in whatever you have to say, because I need to be building my endurance as safely and quickly as possible. Not for running, but I am training again for roller derby. And I am the slowest and weakest person in our group of newbies. I’d really like to make it happen, though!
