Now that we know what our running goals are…Here is our first assignment:
“Don’t run every day!”
How happy are you to hear that? I was at my crazy fast running group the other day, and it shocked me how many of these folks had injuries, and were running with pain.
I then had a chat with one of the really fast girls (who happens to be an orthopedic surgeon) she told me that the most common problems she sees with runners stems from “over training“.
My practice has always been to never run two days in a row. The week for me breaks down to run days and off days. An off day doesn’t mean you can’t work out, it just means do something other than running (cross train). I have really benefited from swimming twice a week. Biking is another great option!
If you haven’t started running yet remember start small and build. Go out right now and do an easy jog around the block…Go ahead, I’ll wait:) You’re back? Great…guess what? You just started your new running program, yay you! Now build on that, oh and cross train tomorrow:)

Okay…you’ve inspired me…I’m going to give this a try! Thank you.
I hate running. Well, all aerobic exercise!
I thought it was just a character flaw until I learned that I have asthma. With my asthma under control, running is not so painful and awful – but remains far from my fav. exercise.
Great article though!
That is all the more reason I’ll be sure to only run if someone is chasing me.
Yup, running EVERY day will tore your junk up!!
That’s why I don’t run.
BWAHAHAHAHA
You guys…running is good for you! All things in moderation:)
This is so true. Before I had kids I was by all accounts a running addict. But, after kids; I am walking addict because running, basically caused my ITB to flare up.
I am still losing weight, but doing without a sore knee!
