I hope you decided to stick with me after reading my first article Learning to Eat Real Food. If not, check it out, analyze your current diet and then let’s move on to changing our lives forever through what we eat.
I believe that we can’t just wake up one morning, throw out the junk and replace it with all healthy food, smile and called it a done job. I tried that the first time. My family went into shock, rebelled and two weeks later I was back to buying the same old foods. If we slow down and implement the changes in phases {with minimal regression!}, they are more likely to stick and become a part of your lifestyle.
Hopefully by now you have a good understanding about what you are currently eating and are familiar with the ingredients in the food in your house. The good new is you don’t have to eat at fast food chains, you don’t have to eat High Fructose Corn Syrup and artificial colors. There are better choices available in abundance for eating out and products without these ingredients available to you! The next step is identifying the better choices and making them. A great resource to aid in making these choices is ShopWell. They have done all the hard work for you and chances are good your kids are going to like the substitute products just as well.
The Next Step Changes ~ small and significant!
1. Reduce your eating out by 50%. I keep plenty of healthy snacks like nuts and Kashi bars stashed in my car and purse.
2. Pack your children’s lunch 50% more than you do now.
3. Have more fresh fruits and vegetables available to snack on. That means for adults too! Not just your kids!
4. Replace 50% of juice and soda consumption with water. Aim for no soda and juices that do not contain high fructose corn syrup!
Remember, if you don’t buy it, you reduce you chances of eating it!
Do you think that these changes are a reasonable place to start?
