What’s the secret to living a long and healthy life? Maintaining close relationships with friends and family, at least according to 100 of the U.S.’s oldest citizens.
Evercare has just released its annual 100 @ 100 Survery; they talk to 100 of the U.S.’s estimated 84,000 centurions, or people who have lived to one hundred years young. They also interviewed others to compare generational differences.
The survey is full of interesting bits of information, like the fact that 63% of the centurion respondents said making new friends is very important to healthy aging, more than any other generation!
Some interesting findings:
- 90% find it very important to maintain close relationships with family and friends.
- 88% responded that laughing and having an intact a sense of humor is very important.
- 84% said that spirituality is very important.
- 64% stated they currently feel very independant. RAWK ON!
- 70% believe that men and women can be just friends.
- 19% use cell phones.
- 12% have used the internet.
- 3% have dated someone they met from an social networking site!
- 1% have texted.
Oh, and the top three celebrities chosen as fantasy dinner companions? Bill Cosby, Tiger Woods, and Oprah Winfrey!
