We all know that, besides being the best conference for women bloggers who want to learn more about their craft, BlissDom is the one chance we get each year to reunite with our online friends IRL. To sit and enjoy time with other ladies who “get” us and mix geek talk, life talk and blog talk together in a mish-mash that the majority of our friends at home just don’t understand.
Sadly, BlissDom goes by too fast. And with so much to do – sessions, parties, meeting new people – it’s time to leave before we’ve really gotten to spend time with the ladies we’ve been looking forward to seeing for a year!
Here’s my solution:
Plan a Pre-BlissDom Girls Getaway!Instead of arriving the day events begin, why not come in a day early? You’ll get the conference room rate and have a day to acclimate to your surroundings and relax with friends before the wonderful craziness of BlissDom begins.
Let me share a few ideas that may inspire you to check in to the fabulous Gaylord Texan a day early and spend time with those friends you don’t see often enough…
Arrive at the beautiful Gaylord Texan, check into your room, unpack, relax a bit, then head down to the grand lobby, grab a coffee from Java Coast or a drink from the Sliver Bar and sit beside the fireplace in a posh leather chair as you await your friends.
After everyone has gathered together, catch a ride on the Grapevine Visitor’s Shuttle ($5 per day) to Grapevine Mills Mall. Wander through the shops or SeaLife Aquarium. Then head across the parking lot to dine at Love and War In Texas. Specialties from across the state tempt your taste buds; from Tex-Mex to slow smoked brisket, the menu is enormous. And don’t overlook the margaritas- with Country Music inspired names like “Tequila Makes Her Clothes Fall Off” and “Amaretto by Morning”- it’s a great way to begin your girl time.
Not in the mood for Texas grub? Take the shuttle the other direction- to Grapevine’s Historic Downtown. The shops will likely be closed, but Napoli’s Italian Café on Main Street is a destination unto itself. A family owned restaurant, the food here is handmade and utterly delectable. Portions are huge, so consider ordering family style… because you’ll want to save a bit of room for gelato, made daily on site.
Catch the shuttle by 10pm and head back to the Texan.
Of course you’ll be up late talking and laughing, so enjoy sleeping in the next morning. Grab a coffee, and maybe a small nibble, but hop on the shuttle again and break your fast with the incredible pastries at Main Street Bistro and Bakery. If they haven’t sold out, try the Almond Croissant. Or the Apple Turnover. Absolute perfection.Spend a couple hours exploring Grapevine’s Historic Downtown. Wander in to the cute boutiques. Maybe find something full of bling to wear at one of the BlissDom parties. Do a bit of wine tasting. Or indulge your artsy side at one of the galleries. Snap photos in the pioneer jail. Watch the twice daily shoot out. And make time for gelato.
Head back to the Texan to get registered for BlissDom and prep for the opening reception at 7pm. Let the bliss begin!
Can’t arrive early? Take these ideas and plan something for Saturday evening. BlissDom officially ends at 5:30 on Saturday. The shuttle to Historic Downtown Grapevine and Grapevine Mills runs until 10pm. Grab your friends and enjoy an evening with friends, old and new, before you head home.
Will you come in early for BlissDom?
