Don't Leave Home Without It!

This may be the easiest photography "trick" out there — but one that you may not think of: take your camera with you as much as you can.

Take the camera even when you are "sure" you won't find a thing to photograph. Simply: You're Often Wrong.

You never know what you'll find. Or what you'll see that you might not have ordinarily.

Take this praying mantis, for instance.

I took the shot as my husband and I got back from the grocery store. The Mantis was hanging out on the garage door. I only got the shot because I'd taken the camera with me.

For the record, I didn't take any photos at the store. :)

Here's another example:

Granted, when I took this photo I was at a photography seminar. But my point is that I've seen reflections on cars SO MANY TIMES.

But, after training myself to look for stuff wherever I was, I finally saw what I thought was the subject of a good photo.

You can, too.

Remember: TAKE. THE. CAMERA.

What unexpected photographs have you gotten just because you brought along your camera?

I am married to my best friend. That sounds cheesy, but it's true. I love photography, reading, and napping (but not necessarily in that order).

I take my camera EVERYWHERE now. Not easy to stop and take them all the time though (with 2 year old running off everywhere). But I have it.

I tell myself this all the time and I usually follow it – and don't you know the one time I DON'T take the camera I am kicking myself all the way home! ;-)

Some great sunrises/sunsets that I otherwise wouldn't have caught, not to mention TONS of cute pics of the boys!

I agree with bringing your camera everywhere. At all times, I at least carry a point and shoot with me. If I have the time and energy to pack all essential belongings of my big-time camera, then I will. Otherwise the manual mode on my point and shoot works just as well, and it has produced some excellent pictures!
