You could win an adorable Robin Hood hat from World of Whimm!
About World of Whimm: Kayce started World of Whimm as a collaboration with her mom to provide quality items that would spark the imaginations of kids. She wanted her kids to have the same childhood memories that she had from the many handmade costumes that her mom made for her and those found in retail stores seemed to be poor quality that couldn’t endure years of play.
How to Win:
What’s your great crafty idea for the Holidays? Share it here, along with the dollar store item you used, and a project cost estimate and don’t forget to link to your blog or website!
A week from today, I will draw a random number via random.org to determine the winner!
Here’s a quick idea from me:
Quick Kiddie Advent Calendar/Reward Chart
I used a tree doily (a pack of 20 for $1 at the dollar store), and some holiday foam stickers (also from the dollar store) to make a quick advent calendar for my 2 year-old son. I am actually going to use this for his reward chart (stickers for good behavior) instead of an Advent calendar, but I can see this as a great quick project for classrooms, scout packs, holiday fairs, or just for fun at home. It could also end squabbles between siblings over who gets to put the Advent ornament up each day. Just make one tree for each kid!
To make: glue a doily on a complementary colored background paper.
- Gluing tip: I used a glue stick. Apply with a light hand, especially if it’s one of those stiff/sticky glue sticks, or you’ll tear the doily. I used the edge of the glue stick and applied it in long strokes along each edge and in the middle. To affix to paper, smooth doily lightly out from center onto paper.
For an Advent calendar: stick one sticker on tree per day (number the stickers, if desired).
These would also be cute classroom decorations, or just decorations for your little one’s bedroom. You could also adapt this project to make simple Christmas cards with your kids.

I was shopping at the Dollar Tree store and came upon several styles of mini birdhouses. I had the idea of painting them and converting them into mini gingerbread house crafts. I also bought several varieties of candies to glue on the wall. I bought everything I needed at the dollar store, paint, glue sticks etc. but second guessed myself and continued on to Michaels. Mistake, the glue sticks purchased at the Dollar Tree worked the best. I even used some white out purchased the same day for some snow accents. I posted the story in my blog at http://www.recipeforchaos.wordpress.com
we bought a 15 inch green wreath, a package of purple votives and one white pillar candle (total=$3) so we can light a candle during our family time to celebrate advent.
my idea comes from needing to make a “treasure box” for my almost 4 year old boy who won’t use the potty. I got a bunch of great $1 store toys (some with more than one to a package), a box, and a ton of $1 scrapbooking stickers and such from the same store.
We dumped the toys in the box and then decorated to our hearts content. I think the entire thing ended up being like $25. It’s full of toys, candy, incentives, incentives, incentives. The outside has “Big Boy” and “Potty Time” in letters.
He got two toys today . . .
