Halloween is one of my most favorite times of year. There's something about the cooler weather, the over-abundance of candy {mmm...Reese's!}, and the adorable kiddos dressed in Halloween costumes. When my kids were younger I dressed them in theme. The first year my two boys were Batman and Robin. The following year they were Captain Hook and Peter Pan. When we had our third son they all dressed as Star Wars characters, Darth Vader, a Storm Trooper and the baby was Yoda. Once my oldest son formed his own opinion, I lost my say-so in who wore what. And, that's okay, I guess. We all still have fun deciding on who or what they'll all dress-up as. Some years, they choose something that really makes me put on my thinking cap and get down and dirty with the glue gun. Other years, it's as easy as … [Read more...]

Easy Halloween Costumes from Your Closet

We did, however, go to “Hallelujah Night “ or “Fall Festival” parties thrown by local churches (and sometimes we would hit up two or three of these “parties”. Oh, we were all about the candy!) I also remember how the brothers and I always had to go as a Bible character (had to as in that is what we wanted to be not simply had to). Most of the time, my brothers wanted to go as Shepherds. Mom grabbed a bathrobe and rope, a pillowcase for head garb and found a stick out in the yard to be used as a staff (and just sometimes my brothers would be ultra cool and hide a water gun under their robes as well). One year, Mom made the Christian Solider from Ephesians 6 costume out of a can of silver spray paint and cardboard. That … [Read more...]

She and I hopped online and began searching for costumes. And the first two options we came across were: Yeah. Neither of those are going to work. The left came from Kohl’s. And while it would be great for a 3-year-old, my nearly teen was NOT impressed. Plus it cost a whopping $49! That’s a bit steep for my budget! I don’t really have to talk about the one on the right. The title says it all: "Sexy Minnie Mouse Costume." Crazy. And wrong. I did come across a possibility from the Disney store online: Maybe if she wore black leggings this would be okay?? And the price was decent, $25 on sale. Oh … [Read more...]
