I don't know about you, but I have plenty of home accessories that can use a few new coats of paint. Paint can transform a piece drastically, and make it look brand new.  Most of us  have a certain color scheme that we use consistently throughout our homes, and sometimes spray painting a Serving Tray, or an Ornate styled mirror, a Mid Century Modern Cabinet, can add tons of interest to a space. I am not one to run and buy new, I like to keep what I have and spray paint if I inspired by another color!   Serving Tray, Mirror & Modern Cabinet: Before      Use What You Have I have a shelf lined with almost every color of spray paint, so I try my best not to make any unnecessary purchases. Believe me I am always looking for a good reason to shop at my local home store, but I … [Read more...]

Refurbished Side Chair, Painted Snowbound White

The Holidays are quickly approaching and it's crunch time. Decorating our home for the holidays takes time, but it's a lot of fun. I don't just take out Thanksgiving and replace with our Christmas decorations. I go beyond like painting, decorating, designing something new, and I even refurbish furniture to make the old look new again. I decided to refurbish this cute side chair that was in my shop for months now. I needed something, a chair to anchor our living space together and new this side chair would be perfect. A chair that can be placed off to the side when not in use. I added a cute chevron patterned lumbar pillow for a designer look. I love this pillow, it's exactly what I was looking for. Simple in design, but adds texture to the space. Made from 100% cotton, I think I need to … [Read more...]

Mixing Antique and Traditional Furniture Styles

If one of your design resolutions this year was to stir up your furniture styles, remember that mixing and matching modern, contemporary pieces with more traditional antiques can be a daunting task for even the most seasoned designer or decorator. So why do it? Why try and mix and match modern pieces with their design counterparts, antiques? Because when it’s done right, combining contemporary furniture and accessories with antiques creates authentic, multi-layered and fascinating spaces. Remember, you should always design a space according to what you truly love. That being said, there are a few steps you can take to make things easier on yourself when tackling a project like trying to infuse old and new in one room. The first thing I suggest is to decide whether or not you … [Read more...]

Do you ever watch those decorating shows on tv and just wish that the next house they visit would be your house?  Yeah, me, too! And there is one show in particular, you know the one, where the homeowners want to sell their home and they have $2,000 to get it ready for an Open House?  It always amazes me the amount of changes they can do on a limited budget.  But then again, the labor is free and I would bet that most of the furniture that they buy is the ready to assemble sort of furniture. So, I decided to give this build it myself furniture a try.  In the past couple of years I have purchased and (helped my husband) build: 3 section ladder bookshelf with laptop desk from Kid's dresser and bookshelf from Target (brick and mortar) Storage Bench for entryway and … [Read more...]
