Homemade Pizza Dough

Summer is here and its time to start thinking of easy dinner recipes.  I don’t know about you, but we seem to be busier during the summer months.  I am always on the lookout for quick and easy meals for our family.  One of our absolute favorites is homemade pizza.  Its easy to make, the kids are able to help in the kitchen and its perfect for a lazy summer evening.

The great thing about homemade pizza is you can add any toppings you want to make it your own.  We love lots of veggies on our pizzas, but maybe you’re a meat lover.  Once you have the basic pizza dough recipe down you are able to create any type of pizza you and your family can dream up.

To make your basic pizza dough you will need:

  • 1 package yeast
  • 1 cup warm water
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 3 cups flour

Place the package of yeast in warm water and let sit for 10 minutes, or until it starts to bubble and foam.  In another bowl, mix your salt, sugar and flour together.  Add the yeast to the flour and mix until combined.  Your dough should be tacky but not sticky.  If its sticky, add a little bit more flour.  Put a towel over the bowl and let your dough rise for 30 minutes.

After it has risen, place it on a lightly floured surface and punch down.  Roll it out onto a baking sheet or a pizza stone.  Add your toppings and cook for 15-20 minutes at 450, or until your cheese is bubbly.  Another great thing about making this pizza dough is that you can double the batch and pull it out of the fridge later.  Then let your pizza imagination go wild and create a custom dinner that is quick, easy and delicious.
